Lancet publishes UKCP-BPC article| UKCP News |18 February 2015

The Lancet Psychiatry has published an article highlighting our report on the deteriorating state of NHS psychotherapy services across the UK, written by Julian Lousada, Chair of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and Janet Weisz, Chair of UKCP.

The article focuses on the state of long-term psychotherapy in the NHS and how long waiting times for short term therapy means many people are turning to private practice to get the care they need.

The piece also discusses the lack of provision for those with enduring and complex conditions and reinforces the need for parity of esteem between the treatment of mental and physical health conditions.

UKCP jointly commissioned the report with the BPC. It is based on a survey of over 2,000 psychotherapists working across the NHS, the third sector and in private practice.

The Lancet Psychiatry is one of nine monthly speciality health journals and has a global readership.
